Start Your Back Stock (1)

Consider your neighborhood grocery store, how many people does it service? In the event of a real emergency or disaster, how long would it take for the food to disappear off of the shelves? We have all witnessed the large trucks, bringing the weekly delivery of merchandise, restocking what had been bought out just a few days before. Did you know that most grocery stores do not have more than a few days worth of food stocked at any given time? You do not want to be one of those people caught in a crisis with no food in your pantry. If you are, and you go to the grocery store in an attempt to stock up, prepare yourself for a terrible shock. You will find complete chaos, bare shelves, and people fighting over the last can of beans. When people realize they do not have enough food for their family they go into a survival mode. The stores are quickly cleaned out, especially in the larger cities.

Do something NOW before disaster occurs! Go to your local Wal-Mart, Sam's, Costco, or whatever and pick-up:
• 20 lbs. of white or brown rice (white rice has a better storage life while brown rice has more nutritional benefits)
• 20 lbs. of pinto beans
10 lbs. mixed beans
• 10 lbs. of white sugar
• 10 lbs. of iodized salt
• 5 gallons of olive oil (can be frozen to extend shelf-life)
• 10 lbs. oats
• 10 lbs. of white or wheat flour
10 lbs. of cornmeal.

Although FEMA recommends keeping enough food on hand to last 3 days, it would be best to have a 30 day supply. Remember, you want to be able to feed your family every day, and there is no telling when your grocery store will be restocked. When the country is faced with a major crisis, the government and military are taken care of first. Running out of food should not be an option for you and your family.
